Secondary Advanced Academics

Cleburne ISD believes that all students deserve the opportunity to engage in a cognitively challenging curriculum that builds academic independence & connects students to college opportunity & success. As such, Advanced Academics seeks to:

• Intentionally seek out advanced academic learners 
• Meet diverse learner needs through the differentiation of Cleburne ISD classrooms
• Provide rigorous & relevant learning opportunities that require students to think creatively, problem solve & generate new ideas
• Develop college-ready learners who are skilled in critical thinking, problem solving & research skills. 

Cleburne ISD offers the following Advanced Academics opportunities to all secondary students:

OnRamps Courses

All Cleburne ISD secondary Advanced Academics courses are open-enrollment courses, meaning that any student may opt in to taking the course. Please be advised, some courses do require the successful completion of past coursework, achieving satisfactory scores on exams and/or summer reading/projects in order to remain enrolled in the course. Students & parents seeking information about a specific course are encouraged to contact the student's school counselor at the Counseling Staff Directory

CISD Advanced Academics Handbook

Advanced courses, formerly known as Pre-AP courses, prepare students for college credit courses. Advanced courses use the existing CISD curriculum & add differentiation through Depth & Complexity to create robust, rigorous curriculum that allows students to think critically & problem solve on a deeper level. 

Accelerated Math Information (Grades 6-12)

The College Board provides access to rigorous courses that allow students to potentially earn college credit by taking & passing a corresponding exam about course materials. These courses, called Advanced Placement (AP) courses, serve as a conduit for students in preparing for & earning college credit. 

Cleburne ISD is proud to offer Cleburne High School students access to AP courses in ELAR, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Languages & Fine Arts.

A signature initiative of the University of Texas at Austin, OnRamps is designed to expand access to high-quality educational opportunities across the state of Texas. OnRamps offers distance, dual enrollment for high school students to engage in authentic college experiences. It allows high school campus OnRamps teachers to deepen their content knowledge & impact in their classrooms. 

The impact of OnRamps is apparent:

• 72% of OnRamps students enroll in two-year & four-year colleges, compared to 56% of "Non-OnRamps" students across Texas.
• 51% of the OnRamps student cohort will be first-generation in their family to earn a bachelor's degree. 
• Student odds of being eligible for college credit increase by 21% for each additional year OnRamps teachers engage in OnRamps' professional learning & development.

Students wishing to drop an OnRamps course must do so both with CHS & through their UT Canvas page. Failure to drop in the UT Canvas page will result in the student remaining in the course & receiving a failing grade for the course.

Cleburne ISD partners with Hill College to provide dual credit courses to Cleburne High School students. Hill College is proud to provide affordable access to post-secondary education. 

Students interested in taking dual credit courses while enrolled at Cleburne High School are encouraged to speak to their school counselor to learn more about courses offered & requirements for admission into dual credit courses, including applying to Hill College & taking & passing the TSIA.

Concurrent Courses (CHS & Hill)

Students may choose to take a course required for high school graduation at Hill College so that they may also obtain college credit. 

In order to receive high school credit, students must first obtain approval (via the concurrent required course form linked below) from their counselor & academic principal to take the college course for high school credit. 

Students taking dual credit courses at the CHS campus are not required to complete this form.

Please be advised that students enrolled in dual credit courses will need to drop their course from both CHS & Hill College. Failure to drop the course with Hill College will result in the student remaining on the roster & receiving a failing grade for the course. 

Students & parents need to consult with Hill College's academic calendar to determine if dropping their dual credit course will result in additional fees from Hill College.
